"Munich Re and its subsidiaries have been more active than rival Swiss Re on the startup investment and partnership front over the last year," according to CB Insights, which analyzes data points on venture capital, startups and InsurTech partnerships (Oct. 12, 2016 blog item, "The Startup & Accelerator Moves Of Reinsurance Giants Munich Re & Swiss Re," CB Insights). But why are reinsurers so active in the space to begin with? Anthony Kuczinski, CEO of Munich Re, US, explained his thinking to Carrier Management's Susanne Sclafane during an interview at the Property/Casualty Insurance Joint Industry Forum in January 2017.
