When Hurricane Matthew hit in October of last year, the insurance industry found itself assessing damage and recovery costs weeks after the storm's passing, particularly along the Southeast coast. With this in mind, Julie Rochman, president and CEO of the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety (IBHS) discusses how communities can be forward looking in their approach to disaster prevention. Instead of focusing solely on strategies for cleanup and recovery after a natural disaster, Rochman is advocating having a strategy in place to be prepared beforehand and mitigate potential damage when a storm hits.
